Buildings come and go in a community. Change is just the natural order of things. Some are destroyed by fire, while others are deemed old-fashioned. Financial development can play a part, and so can the wheels of progress.

Since its founding in 1895, Glen Ridge has lost a significant number of houses and public buildings for all of these reasons. Most residents are probably unaware of the impressive architectural legacy that they represent.

The Glen Ridge Historical Society proudly presents a photographic exhibit of over 80 buildings that no longer exist in town, with corresponding photographs of the buildings on those sites today. The list is not all inclusive: we know of other buildings that are gone which have left no photographs behind. We also chose to not include our early industrial mills and factories.
