Happy Holidays from Glen Ridge Historical Society

Today, Glen Ridge has a number of annual holiday traditions including the Municipal Tree Lighting at Borough Hall, Hanukkah Menorah Lighting and luminaries on Christmas Eve.

However, during the Great Depression, Glen Ridge residents brought used toys to the firehouse for repair and distribution to the needy on Christmas. Bicycles, doll carriages, and pull toys were among the 300 toys firemen Charles Anderson, James Corcoran, and Fred Schmitz refurbished for children in Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, and Montclair.

If you’re looking for gifts that celebrate Glen Ridge, consider our brass ornaments, note cards, matching game, historic maps (north or south end circa 1906), bronze house plaques, and seasonal post cards – all available by appointment at the Terry S. Webster Archives. Or email us to purchase. You might also consider a membership for yourself or a neighbor.
